RoseAnn Pianka



Biography RoseAnn Pianka is a Connecticut native, watercolor artist and teacher who has been honing her skills since high school. She took various lessons and workshops and practiced watercolors as a hobby throughout her life. In 2005 she decided to make the effort to dedicate herself fulltime to the art, and share her knowledge and passion with others, so she retired from hairdressing and began to teach fulltime. Most recently, she practiced under the teaching of George Novak, a well known artist in Connecticut, and previously through other accomplished painters including, John Ashton and BobVirelli. RoseAnn thoroughly enjoys her work. She finds teaching watercolors very rewarding, and loves to be able to share her experience, knowledge, training, and talent with others. When she isn't teaching or practicing her art she enjoys her free time with her husband and three children.

Water Colors



Definition A pigment that, when used with water as a medium, creates a type of paint. Watercolor paint is transparent, and the white of the ground (paper) underneath provides light that shines through the painting.

Advantages of Water Color



The advantages of watercolor lie in the ease and quickness of its application, in the transparent effects achievable, in the brilliance of its colors, and in its relative cheapness. Aquarelles have a delicacy difficult to achieve in oil and are equally flexible, lending themselves to immediate expression of a visual experience. Their handling demands considerable skill as overpainting of flaws is usually impossible. Watercolor was traditionally a comparatively perishable medium, vulnerable to sunlight, dust, and contact with glass surfaces, but the use of modern pigments has made it much more stable.
